ERP FAQs

ERP FAQs – An ERP solution has never been so accessible to small businesses.

Whether you’ve been using an ERP for years or you haven’t considered an ERP for your business, Buildable’s open-source ERP solution is revolutionary. Naturally, you’ll have questions.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

ERP is an acronym that stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. But what does that really mean? ERP software is designed to help companies manage their business operations, providing visibility into available resources, whether financial, labor, time, materials, or other aspects are needed. Organizations use ERP software to streamline the complexity of business processes such as taking orders, scheduling plant activity, tracking raw materials, and reporting on compliance. Virtually every organization with more than a few employees uses some form of ERP. It’s a competitive disadvantage if a company isn’t leveraging ERP effectively.

Buildable’s ERP solutions can be implemented for many industries, including but not limited to Manufacturing, Services, Value-Add, Education, Agriculture, Retail, Distribution, Non-Profit, and Healthcare. Contact Buildable to tell us about your unique business practices and get honest, transparent feedback on whether or not ERP is right for your business.

The most important outcome from implementing an ERP system is efficiency and, in turn, profitability. Buildable’s ERP system will streamline your data and processes, allowing your company to save money in every facet. Additionally, an easy-to-use system increases employee satisfaction and minimizes employee training and onboarding costs.

Open-source ERP systems give companies the leverage and power to grow without the massive overhead. You’ll have the freedom to change vendors at any time, faster setup, easy customization, access to all functionality, and so much more. Check out this article about the top 5 benefits of open source ERP.

While an open-source ERP can be perfect for smaller operations, many large companies may require a more robust system. Traditional ERP systems range from $75,000 to $750,000 to implement and maintain. Open-source ERP solutions can give small businesses the same capabilities as the giant competitors in their market.

Before the introduction of ERP, Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software was developed to help manufacturers keep track of what parts and components were needed to complete orders and make sure those raw materials were on hand to support production demands. MRP expanded and evolved into ERP with the addition of applications to connect other areas of the business such as financial, sales, and production operations. By integrating MRP into an end-to-end business management software solution, companies improve visibility and collaboration across the organization.

Accounting

At this time, ERPNext does not offer an accounting solution for standard costing. During the accounting setup, you can choose between FIFO (first-in, first-out) or Moving Average. Buildable is interested in creating a custom standard costing solution. If your company requires standard costing, please reach out to tell us what you’d like to see in a future solution.

Yes. ERPNext comes standard with a Plaid integration, so we can connect your banking with your ERP to import all of your transactions. With ERPNext and Plaid, reconciling is easy.

Yes. ERPNext has an accounting module that connects to other areas of the system in real-time, allowing accounting dashboards to highlight all key performance indicators at a glance. With configurable accounting dimensions and customizable dashboards, it’s finally possible to analyze every component of your business in one place. The account module includes a chart of accounts, journals, payments, billing, payment requests and pricing, auto-invoicing, and banking with synchronization. Let us know if there’s a specific feature you’re looking for. We’ll show you if it’s already part of the system or show you what it would take to build it.

Customer Relationship Manager (CRM)

Depending on your current implementation of Salesforce, Buildable may or may not recommend moving your CRM to ERPNext. Salesforce is a robust CRM software with many features that can be customized to your business needs. ERPNext offers a customizable CRM as well. If your company has not yet implemented a CRM, ERPNext will be great for you. If you’ve already spent significant resources on improving Salesforce for your needs, we might suggest you continue to get a return on your investment with Salesforce.

Yes. With campaigns inside ERPNext’s CRM module, you can promote a product or service with fully customizable emails and create a campaign schedule to assist in keeping leads warm and interested.

Implementation

A quick implementation of ERPNext can be completed in as little as one month but can also take 6 months or longer in cases where large custom components are required.

Workstations, mobile devices, and barcoding peripherals may be required for your ERP setup. Any of your currently owned hardware will be compatible with the new system. During the implementation process, Buildable will help you identify if any additional hardware will be required and provide recommendations for your company’s specific use case.
